Download
Download the host app
This is the app for the device that sends its screen, and it's free. On your Quest, install Vertex Display (Meta Horizon Store).
Mac host
- macOS 13 Ventura or later. Apple silicon recommended (Intel Macs: up to 2 screens)
- Lives in the menu bar and starts automatically at login, ready for connections
First-time setup
- Open the downloaded "VertexHost-mac.dmg" and drag Vertex Host into your Applications folder
- Open Vertex Host from Applications (an icon appears in the menu bar)
- When asked for "Screen Recording" and "Accessibility" permissions, turn them on in System Settings (they let the host send your screen and carry out input from Quest)
- Click the menu bar icon to see the host's name and PIN. Select it in Vertex Display on Quest and enter the PIN
Windows host
- Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) / Windows 11, 64-bit
- Hardware encoding with an NVIDIA, AMD or Intel GPU (also works without one)
- Lives in the taskbar (notification area). You can turn on "Launch at login" from the tray icon
Heads-up: you'll see a warning when opening it
The Windows version isn't code-signed through Microsoft yet, so you may see warnings when you download or launch it. It isn't a virus. Here's how to open it:
The Windows version isn't code-signed through Microsoft yet, so you may see warnings when you download or launch it. It isn't a virus. Here's how to open it:
- If your browser says the file "isn't commonly downloaded": "..." → "Keep" → "Keep anyway"
- If you see "Windows protected your PC": "More info" → "Run anyway"
A Microsoft Store version without these warnings is in review. We'll announce it here once it's available.
First-time setup
- Double-click the downloaded "VertexHost.msi" and follow the on-screen instructions to install
- If "Windows protected your PC" appears, click "More info" → "Run anyway"
- When asked "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", click "Yes" (the installer puts the app in Program Files and adds a firewall rule)
- On the last screen, leave "Launch Vertex Host" checked and click "Finish" to start it (you can also open it from the Start menu; to uninstall, go to Settings → Apps)
- If a firewall prompt appears, allow "Private networks" (it usually won't appear, since the installer adds the rule for you)
- Check the host's name and PIN from the taskbar icon, then select it in Vertex Display on Quest and enter the PIN
Android — Vertex Host
- Android 8 or later (sending phone audio requires Android 10 or later)
- Currently in testing on Google Play. We'll link to it here once it's released
- Uses the Accessibility permission to carry out input from Quest, and screen sharing permission to send your screen (Privacy Policy)

Troubleshooting
- The host doesn't show up in the list — Make sure Quest and the host are on the same network. Networks that block device-to-device traffic, such as guest Wi-Fi, won't work
- Stuttering or freezing — Connect your Mac or Windows PC by Ethernet, use 5 GHz or faster Wi-Fi, or open fewer screens
- Input doesn't work (Mac) — Make sure the host app is turned on under "Accessibility" in System Settings. After an update, turning it off and back on may fix it
- The screen is black (Mac) — Check the "Screen Recording" permission
